About West Bengal

West Bengal is situated in the east of India. Culcutta which is now called Kolkata is the capital of West Bengal. Culcutta served as capital of British led East India Company for many decades before independence. Later, after India got independence, Bengal was divided into two parts based upon religious lines. The western part is called West Bengal which is now in India, and the Eastern part was called East Bengal led by Pakistan government. However, later it is separated from Pakistan and declared itself a self nation, which is now called as Banladesh. West Bengal stretches from Himalayas in the north to Bay Of Bengal in the south. West Bengal shares its boundaries with Sikkim and Bhutan on the north, Orissa, Bihar and Nepal on the west, Assam and Bangladesh on the east. The southern part is surrounded by Bay of Bengal. The great tourist place, Darjeeling is located in the West Bengal. West Bengal is very famous for its food especially Rasagolla, a sweet which is very much liked by Bengal people.
